Fries = Memories

I was making curly fries and dumped them on the cookie sheet. P, my 5 year old, looked up and said, 'curly fries remind me of Popsie! I love them!'

That's how it is for all of us now that my dad (their Popsie) is gone. You are going about your day and BAM someone or something reminds you of him.

Every Tuesday before my dad died, the kids and I would go to mom and dad's house for dinner! We would order pizza, curly fries and vanilla shakes from a local pizza place.

We spent so much time with them because we enjoyed our time together - not because we knew our time would be cut short!! That quality time turned out to be the BIGGEST blessing after my dad passed suddenly.

I am so happy that frozen curly fries hitting a cookie sheet made my dear daddy alive in my son's mind....if only for a moment in time!!

Has it really been over one year? Hot damn - it hurts like yesterday!!

My son....the con artist!!

Let me begin this tale by filling my cyber-friends in on some details.  I have an old an iphone that the kids now use for games.  After the $200 of 'in-app application' charges from my 5 year old son, I have the phone strictly protected with a password.  The password is the name of one of my mom's dogs!

And the tale now begins.....
The other night, P asked me to write down 'Rosie' (one of Nonie's 3 dogs) on a piece of paper so he will never forget her name.  Thinking he just wanted to be a cutie like he was the other night (see previous post) I wrote the name down on a piece of paper.  About an hour later, he asked me to write down another of the dog's names on a piece of paper.  He went through the names of all her birds and dogs....but stumbled upon one of the names.  He asked me what the dog's name was again...anyway, this went on for about 12 hours, dipping into the next morning.  He would do other things in-between, as would I.  I didn't think much about the little post-it notes that were now sticking throughout my house.

P (my 5 year old) walked up to me the next morning and was looking for one specific sticky note....the one with one of the dog's names on it.  Perhaps it was the iphone in his hand, the sparkle in his eye or the (forced) innocent look on his face BUT (after a good night sleep and my mom instincts nice and sharp) everything became clear!! I asked him why he wanted that one and he looked at me and said, 'ummmmmm, because I wanted to order a game and I knew you wouldn't let me!!'

Very reassuring to know that my 5 year old planned an attack for 12 + hours, sending me on a wild goose chase to get a password for the iphone!!!

Our A

A, our 4 year old, was going to sleep and proclaimed she didn't want to grow up. Knowing she would say something funny, I asked her why. She replied, 'I don't want to make my own food!!'
-------
P, our 5 year old, was on a 2-night sleepover at my sister's house. When he returned home, A showed him her hand and said, 'LOOK, I got married while you were at Aunt Susie's house!! P looked at me and said, 'she's kidding, right?'
